Transrapid in the USA

Apart from China, the USA is also an important foreign market for the Transrapid. For further Transrapid planning funding for mainly two projects has been set aside in the transportation budget.

50 percent of the funds have been allocated to the Las Vegas-Primm project, a route which is approximately 56 kilometers (35 miles) long. The other 50 percent is for one of three East Coast projects: namely, the approx. 87-kilometer (54-mile) Pittsburgh International Airport-Greensburg line, the approx. 63-kilometer (39-mile) Baltimore-Washington line, and the approx. 50-kilometer (31-mile) Atlanta-Hartsfield International Airport link. A selection and evaluation procedure to be conducted by the U.S. government will decide which project gets the nod.

What is especially pleasing in addition to the allocation of these planning funds is that the Transportation Infrastructure Financial and Innovation Act (TIFIA), which allows federally secured loans for transportation projects, has been explicitly extended to cover maglev projects.
